I don't know if I'm behind on this whole Hautelook thing, but I like it! It's not that I buy designer clothing or anything, I just like to drool over the deep discounts I find. Hautelook is an invitation site with rotating designers and discount prices. Here are some of my favorites from today's hunt.

It's very fun stuff. They have clothing, housewares, toys, and getaways at relatively good prices. (by "relatively" I mean in stead of $1200 for a Valentino suit, it's $500) So, while I won't be waltzing around in Kate Spade or Bagley Mischka any time soon, I can enjoy the fact that others may buy their stuff for "cheap"!

So busy!

Ok, first I want to talk about the curtains. They took forever, but they're done!!

Close up.

Action shot!

I definitely had a lot of fun sewing them by hand, but the living/dining room windows are definitely going to have to wait until I have a sewing machine.

Also, I finally got to do hair for a shoot at my friend Tony's studio. I haven't gotten the pictures yet, but I'll post them when he sends them to me.

It was super fun! I want more!!

Big Hair!

One of my clients had her wedding hair trial run today and wanted something big, classic, and vintage. Here were some of my ideas:

They all got the same reaction: pretty, but not big enough. So this is what we did, instead:

Since the bride to be was not feeling well today (and I forgot to get her permission to post pictures. oops.), I've blacked out her face to hide her identity.
I'm pretty thrilled with how her hair turned out. Keep in mind that this is a trial run, that the pins will be hidden, and the fly-aways more smooth on her wedding day. She'll also have her roots touched up just before.

To market, to market!

Today, we went to the Byrd House Market. It seems like every time I go, I've planned poorly and have no money to actually buy anything. I'm usually giving someone else a ride and just window shopping while I'm there. Today, however, Jess and I went together, cash in hand, on a mission for tonight's dinner. Here's what we found:
It doesn't look like much, but tonight's dinner will be grilled chicken with spicy tomato fusilli from Bombolini Pasta. This is the first time we've tried their pasta, but I've drooled over them at the market. We also scored some spinach fettuccine. Here's a video about Bombolini, which makes me want to support the company even more:

Seriously, the guy was super nice. Very helpful and genuinely excited about his product.

To Market Part II:

I finally bought fabric for the kitchen curtains! It's about damn time. Now I can start sewing hand...*hint for birthday present: I need a sewing machine!!*
Hancock Fabrics is having a 4th of July Sale so this lot, normally $7.99/yd cost me only $3.99/yd. YAY! Tons of designs are super cheap, but I knew I wanted this one in particular. I'll show pictures once I get started.

I'm a loser.

So, I'm a total loser and haven't posted in forever. Things have been really busy at work, the cats are driving us crazy, and we haven't done squat to the house in weeks.
Salon del Sol is opening their sixth location in Richmond July 18th, so they have been hiring like crazy. As a "new-hire coach" for the company, I've been super busy getting new stylists (new to us, not the industry) ready to go on the floor with us. The newbies have been great about learning our products and rituals.
This weekend I've resolved to get motivated again and get my butt moving on the house again!
New posts are coming soon.

Happy 4th of July everyone!
(yes, I know it's a day late.)
